Jobs go as 20:20 expands overseas

CHESHIRE mobile phone distributor 20:20 Mobile is making redundancies after shaking up its international sales operation.
The Crewe-based company is opening two subsidiaries in Holland and Turkey and expanding its French business to drive European growth.
But the reorganisation will lead to the loss of 2%, or around 12, of the firm’s 600 UK staff. 20:20 said it expects to make the redundancies among its international marketing, purchasing and finance teams, but stressed the majority should be voluntary.
The Crewe-based firm said the changes have been made to strengthen its presence in each region and improve relationships with existing partners and customers.
The office in the Dutch town of Zoetermeer will support the company’s sales activities in Germany and Belgium. George Steur, former managing director of 20:20 Mobile International, will head the new subsidiary.
The office in Istanbul, Turkey, will be managed from 20:20’s established set-up in the United Arab Emirates. 20:20 employs 1,300 staff around the world.
