Airport City and Siemens head for MIPIM

THE proposed bio-medical zone within Manchester’s Airport City enterprise zone, and German engineering giant Siemens’ sustainable technology park, will take centre stage at the MIPIM property and investment showcase next month.

The Medi Park close to Wythenshawe Hospital is a key part of the £600m+ Airport City development, while Siemen’s is set to create 400 jobs with its investment – backed by the Regional Growth Fund – to transform its landmark base in south Manchester into a green technology centre.

Around 45 organisations – including 12 newcomers such as law firm Gateley and architects Stride Treglown – have signed up to the Manchester at MIPIM partnership in Cannes.

Keynote speakers at the Manchester stand events between March 6 and 9 include Juergen Maier, managing director of Siemens and Charlie Cornish, chief executive of Manchester Airports Group.

Among the topics under discussion will be science, sustainability, the media, the city’s international profile and the economic outlook.

Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester, which is coordinating the city’s presence at MIPIM, said: “Manchester’s stand events are an essential part of the MIPIM property conference – they provide an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of the city’s partnership and to raise those all important questions about the potential growth of the city; amongst a significant crowd from the international property and business community.”

As with last year, Manchester will be the North West’s sole representative at MIPIM.

Property giant Peel Group – which has exhibited in the past – is focused on securing high-level Chinese investment for its massive Liverpool Waters developments, while Liverpool’s focus this year is on its Liverpool in  London embassy project and also hosting the Global Entrepreneurship Congress the week after MIPIM.
