Appointments: Hill Dickinson; Lufthansa; Deloitte & more

LAW firm Hill Dickinson has boosted its Manchester-based insurance team with a number of new appointments including partner Stuart Smith.
Mr Smith will work in the fraud team, and is an expert in the self-drive hire sector.
Jonathan Watts has been recruited to the motor litigation team as a legal director and is tasked with building a portfolio of non-fraud motor work, and securing further legal panel membership for the firm.
Ruth Lawrence, partner and head of insurance commented: “The appointments of Jonathan and Stuart represent the continuation of our growth strategy, which is to expand by building upon Hill Dickinson’s strength in the North West. In 2012 we will continue to recruit the very best talent and the Insurance management team is dedicated to investing in regional growth in what is a very specialist market.”
Alison Ward is another new addition and joins as a development manager to develop the reach of the firm’s Netfoil product, which is used by lawyers, insurance brokers and insurance intermediaries to identify, manage and evidence incidences of motor fraud.

GERMAN airline Lufthansa, a major scheduled operator out of Manchester Airport, has appointed 41-year-old Christian Schindler as its new general manager for the UK & Ireland.
He replaces replacing Marianne Sammann following her transfer to Munich and moves from a similar role at Lufthansa Korea.
He said: “I am taking over at an exciting time, with Lufthansa having recently started new services from Aberdeen and London Gatwick as well as announcing new daily services to Berlin from Manchester and Birmingham as part of a major investment at the new Berlin-Brandenburg “Willy Brandt” Airport which is due to open in June 2012.”

DELOITTE has launched a new national financial services transaction services team which will be led in the region by Manchester-based assistant director Dan Wright.
The unit has been created to advise on transactions across the breadth of the financial services sector from all Deloitte regional locations outside London.
Mr Wright said: “We have seen an increasing volume of transactional activity within the financial services sector and this is set to continue. We anticipate even more deal activity, particularly within the building and friendly societies, non-standard lenders and other insurers.”

THE supply chain project for the aerospace sector being run by the North West Aerospace Alliance has made two new hires.
Carole Stewart from Preston joins as as skills coordinator and Kristian Samways, from Clayton-le-Woods, as innovation coordinator.
The project, called ASCE 2 programme (Aerospace Supply Chain Excellence) is a £11.4m programme which aims to deliver more than £100m to the North West’s economy and 400 jobs.
Scott Bairstow, ASCE 2 programme manager, said: “ASCE 2 is critical, strategic supply chain programme which works closely with the prime aerospace manufacturers including BAE Systems, Airbus and Rolls Royce to further develop supply chain capability.
“It is important to have a high calibre team in place to work with our member companies, and both Carol and Kristian have some great experience and ideas to contribute to our aim of securing a competitive base of world-class aerospace companies in the region.”
