Symera rolls out East Manchester wi-fi network

SYMERA Eastserve – an Openshaw-based provider of broadband services to East Manchester residents – has announced that it is rolling out a scheme providing ‘pay as you go’ wi-fi internet access across the area.
.
The company said that it is already offering wi-fi through a number of selected hotspots and expected to offer complete coverage across the East Manchester area by the end of the year, creating the largest ‘pay as you go’ community wi-fi networks in the UK. Residents can pay £1 per day, £5 per week or £15 per month to use the network.

Eastserve was  set up ten years ago to tackle the digital divide in east Manchester. It has around 1,000 users of its broadband network and has delivered subsidised computers and training courses to more than 5,500 local residents. It was bought out by wireless networks firm Symera last year.

Nigel Walker, Managing Director of Symera Eastserve, said: “Since acquiring Eastserve last year we have been implementing the latest technology to ensure we have a thoroughly professional, reliable, high speed network able to match any of the more expensive fixed-line providers,” he said.
