Taylor Wimpey plans 130 homes in Tarporley

PLANNING officers at Cheshire West & Chester Council (CWaC) are recommending that Taylor Wimpey’s proposal to build 130 homes in the village of Tarporley is approved weeks after granting permission for a 100-home scheme within the area.
Taylor Wimpey is planning to build the properties on a 13-acre greenfield site at Tarporley Road, Tarvin. It is currently largely agricultural land, but there are a number of low-density houses built on a site next door.
The firm’s outline application states that it plans to develop the site in two separate phases, with the majority of this being 2-3 bed semi-detached properties. Up to 46 houses would be affordable homes, which would be distributed throughout the site “to ensure that they are integrated into the proposals and indistinguishable from the remainder of the open market housing in terms of quality”.
Just over 30% of the site would also be reserved for open space. The firm has been praised by council officials for its public consultation efforts prior to construction, but the scheme has still received 29 letters of objection and one in support.
Those objecting have said the scheme is contrary to planning policy, and argued that it would place “unaaceptable demands” on Tarvin’s infrastructure – most noticably in terms of school places and marking.
However, council officers have recommended the scheme is approved, subject to a number of contributions being made including almost £200,000 towards primary education.
A decision is due to be taken on the scheme tomorrow (March 8).
Last month, Cheshire West & Chester Council approved a 100-home development brought forward by Fox Strategic Land & Property – the strategic land arm of Congleton-based Gladman Developments.
The scheme had received more than 1,000 letters of objection, and opponent Michael George told the Chester Chronicle that the decision meant “the floodgates are now open for development in any open countryside location in order to hit CWaC’s housing targets”.
