Aintree Hospital’s £20m upgrade to begin

AINTREE University Hospital has been granted planning permission for its proposed £20m upgrade.
The trust will now begin a programme of upgrading the hospital’s A&E, critical care, cardiology and fracture clinic departments. The work is being carried out by BAM Construction and is expected to take just over two years to complete.
The trust’s chief executive Catherine Beardshaw said: “This decision is fantastic news and will enable us to ensure we can continue to provide the best quality care to patients in modern, fit-for-purpose facilities.
The A&E department will be extended to allow more room for patients receiving treatment and new ‘see and treat’ rooms will be built to help the flow of patients through the department. The critical care department will also be extended to include 24 new beds for the hospital’s sickest patients.
