Britannia buys two Scarborough hotels

BRITANNIA Hotels, the Hale-based hotels chain owned by Alex Langsam, has picked up two hotels in based in Scarborough from administrators.

The firm has bought the Royal and Clifton Hotels from Duff &  Phelps, which was appointed as administrators to former parent ERH (Scarborough) Ltd in August last year. The sale was completed yesterday and both were bought as going concerns.

Duff & Phelps joint administrator David Whitehouse said: “Whilst trading conditions in the hotel and leisure sector in the UK remain difficult I am pleased to announce the successful sale of these two hotels.

“The sale to an established hotel operator will now provide certainty to both employees and surrounding businesses.”

The Royal Hotel to was sold to Ambassador (East Cliff) Limited and The Clifton Hotel to Britannia Hotel Wolverhampton Limited saving all existing employee positions in the process.

Britannia Hotels has bought several hotel properties from administrators in recent years, as well as the Pontins holiday camp business.
