E.ON signs gas storage deal

ENERGY giant E.ON’s gas storage arm has completed a deal to let out its Holford facility in Cheshire.

Hong Kong-based Noble Clean Fuels will use the entire facility under a five-year deal, during which the site will continue to be operated by E.ON.

Construction work at Holford began in 2005, but the first three caverns created from former salt mines, only became available for use by the end of 2011. The facility currently has a capacity of 60m cubic metres, but this will increase to 160m cubic metres next year once the remaining five chambers are commercially available.

Jo Vizor, managing director at E.ON Gas Storage UK, said: “We are delighted to have reached agreement with Noble.

“The highly flexible, fast-churn capability of the Holford gas storage facility will offer a fantastic addition to Noble’s portfolio. Our expert team will continue to manage and operate the facility and we look forward to work hand in hand with Noble during this period.”

Speaking on behalf of Noble Clean Fuels, Mark Strange said: “We are excited about working with E.ON Gas Storage and the Holford gas storage facility.  We expect that this facility will play an important role in our energy business in Europe.”
