STG wins Liverpool underground work

CONSTRUCTION firm, Strategic Team Group, has won a £3.6m contract to improve Liverpool Central, the city’s busiest underground station.
Part of the £5m programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Merseytravel, the Yorkshire-based firm is currently carrying out major redevelopment work to improve capacity, safety and access at the station.
The project, which is due to be completed in October, includes improving automatic ticket gates, expanding the walkway to the passenger lift, increasing and improving toilet facilities and building a new staff building at the back of the station.
Strategic Team Group’s business development director, Charles Tweed said: “This major project will provide Liverpool with the 21st century underground station it deserves.
“Whilst we have a wealth of experience in the rail sector, Liverpool Central marks a significant milestone for Strategic Team Group, as it’s the first underground station we have been awarded.”
