Lancashire wind farm scheme moving forward

AIM-listed green energy company Renewable Energy Generation is moving forward with its scheme in Lancashire.

REG, which is backed by The Co-operative Bank, has purchased two Vestas V90 2MW wind turbines for the site at Orchard End. The development at Eagland Hill, between Nateby and Pilling, has faced local opposition, but is now moving forward.

The turbines are scheduled for delivery in early 2013 and the project is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2013.

In a statement REG said the wind farm is anticipated to produce approximately 12.5GWh of output per annum. The project cost of Orchard End is expected to total around £5.5m, which will be funded in full from the existing cash resources of the company.

Chief executive Andrew Whalley said: “Orchard End has an excellent wind resource and will provide many years of sustainable energy for the local area.

“Additionally, REG, in common with its other wind projects, has provided a community scheme which will provide significant benefits to local causes over the life of the wind farm.”

REG Windpower: based in Truro and Bath, currently operates 10 wind projects in Cambridgeshire, Cornwall, County Durham, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Gwynedd, with a total capacity of 41.15MW and has a development pipeline of over 1,000MW.
