Waldie to lead HBJ Gateley Wareing’s NW office

LAW firm HBJ Gateley Wareing’s new Manchester office is to be led by real estate partner Rod Waldie.
The new Manchester office of the Birmingham-based national law firm is currently operating from 3 Hardman Square – the former home of Halliwells.
The arrival of HBJ Gateley Wareing in Manchester follows its acquisition late last month of 40 former Halliwells partners.
The deal comprised the banking and finance, corporate, real estate, real estate litigation, corporate recovery, commercial litigation, intellectual property, employment, family, pensions and construction business units.
Following the move the firm now has 140 partners and is expected to have a turnover of around £65m for the year ending April 2011. The move brought an additional 200 fee earners and staff to the firm, bringing total numbers to more than 750.
Manchester senior office partner, Rod Waldie, said: ‘I am delighted to be heading up the Manchester office at this crucial time as we establish the HBJ Gateley Wareing brand in the city and the north-west.
“Our combined strength provides a formidable national commercial legal practice for the benefit of our clients and staff.’
HBJ Gateley Wareing joint senior partner, Michael Ward said: ‘I know Rod and his colleagues are firmly focused on building a successful business with us here in Manchester.
“The former Halliwells teams bring with them a significant client base and a long and distinguished history in the Manchester legal market, which will complement perfectly our existing national practice. As part of the move we also welcome nine fee-earners to our London office, which has grown significantly since we first opened in 2007.”
HBJ Gateley Wareing now has seven UK offices, in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, London, Manchester and Nottingham as well as an office in Dubai.
