Property entrepreneur opens boutique hotel in Liverpool

A LONDON entrepreneur has opened his first hotel outside the capital in Liverpool.

Robert Nadler is behind Base2Stay which has spent £14m converting an old industrial building in Seel Street into a 106-room hotel.

The business already has a hotel in London’s Kensington and is planning a third in Soho.

Mr Nadler, who made around £4m in 2003 from the sale of London property company Compco, has teamed up with Scottish property investor Sir John MacTaggart with backing from Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets.

He said: “We chose Liverpool for sound business reasons but were also instinctively drawn to the city and its atmosphere. We looked across the UK but it became clear very quickly that Liverpool is the coolest destination by a long way. It has undergone such a dramatic renaissance in recent years and offers a cultural and artistic mix which is unique.”

Rather than having a bar or dining facilities on site, each room is equipped with abase2stay liverpool mini-kitchen.

The 145-year-old building was renovated with the help of a Townscape Heritage Initiative Grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, North West Development Agency, Liverpool City Council and English Heritage.
