Merseyway boosts visitor numbers

FOOTFALL at Stockport’s Merseyway shopping centre increased by over 16% in May to 881,065 visitors.
The centre’s LPA receivers and managing agents, GHA, also agreed lease renewal deals with 11 national retailers, including chocolatier Thorntons, newsagent WH Smith and North West-headquartered jewellery retail business Beaverbrooks.
Mark Rawstron, senior director of GVA, said: “We are thrilled with these latest figures. Merseyway is continuing to thrive despite the troubles blighting the nation’s high streets.
“The shopping centre is now almost fully let. People are returning to Stockport in large numbers and we believe they will continue to do so.”
Councillor Iain Roberts, executive member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “These figures are great news for Stockport. This big increase in visitor numbers together with the recent success of Stockport’s Portas Pilot bid has given the borough a big boost.”
