Appointments: CLB Coopers; Thwaites Beer Co; Linder Myers; and more

NORTH West accountancy firm CLB Coopers has made a key appointment with the arrival of Colin Abrahams as tax partner.

Joining from national firm Baker Tilly, where he was a head of tax in the Manchester office, he has experience in advising entrepreneurs and partners of professional practices. His arrival follows that of Rob Wardle who also joined as tax partner from KPMG in 2011.

Mr Abrahams said: “I am excited to join the team at CLB Coopers, given their excellent reputation in the marketplace and the professional community. I am looking forward to bringing my skills and experience to clients and assisting with the continued growth of the firm.”

LANCASHIRE brewer Thwaites has appointed Derek Mackey as sales director of subsdiary Thwaites Beer Co. Thwaites Derek Mackey

He takes up his new role on Monday and will be responsible for driving national ‘on sales’, independent free trade and take home channels.

Mr Mackey joins Blackburn-based Thwaites from Suffolk brewer Greene King, where he was also sales director.

Thwaites Beer Co. MD Steve Magnall said: “Derek has a wealth of experience in the drinks sector and a proven track record in delivering new business and growing revenue and profits.

“With his strong leadership skills and expertise, Derek will be an asset to the team and instrumental in growing sales and availability of the Thwaites beer brands.”

LAW firm Linder Myers has appointed Sarah McCarthy as head of its family department.

McCarthy, who was previously at Dickson Haslam for 12 years, joins the firm as a partner in its Lytham office.

She said: “I am excited about having a new challenge and particularly joining Linder Myers at a time when the firm has exciting growth plans. The team has a strong reputation in the region and I look forward to building on its success.”

Cheshire-based interior design firm Space has recruited two new members of staff – designer Sanjay Prasad and front-of-house receptionist Katherine Faulkner. Prasad has moved from Manchester designers NoChintz and Faulker moves from a similar role at an electronics company in the region.

Space managing director Wayne Taylor said: “We’ve employed 16 people now since the turn of the year, 10 of them in the last quarter alone and that’s testament to the rate at which the business is growing.”

GVA has recruited Dulcie Bolland as an associate in the Manchester office.
Bolland joins the firm’s lease consultancy team.

She had previously spent seven and-a-half years at BNP Paribas Real Estate until the office closed in February 2012. Since February, she has worked in an in-house management role for Integrated Dental Holdings (IDH), where she dealt with the group’s portfolio across the North of England and Scotland.

At GVA, she will work alongside director of lease consultancy Shawn Ganguly.
She said: “Joining GVA is a fantastic opportunity to work with a range of high profile clients, some of which I have already had the pleasure of working with and I look forward to the opportunity of developing new client relationships.”

LAW firm Stephensions has recruited solicitor Kerry Barlow to its clinical negligence team.

Barlow, from St Helens, has joined the firm from Dental Law Partnership and has expert knowledge of claims relating to substandard dental treatment.

Her role at Stephensons will involve assisting people with a range of clinical negligence claims covering all areas of medical treatment from GPs, surgeons, dentists and other practitioners, including beauty therapists.

She said: “I joined Stephensons because of the firm’s growing reputation in handling such a wide variety of complex clinical negligence cases.

“I’m looking forward to helping people who are seeking redress for the injuries and financial losses they have suffered as a result of negligence.”
