Lake District leisure complex sold

THE Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA) has bought a self-catering leisure complex at Bassenthwaite, near Keswick in the Lake District off an asking price of £1.75m.

CSMA has bought the Parkergate complex from owners Jane & Ian Philips, who are retiring from the business.

They were represented by the Manchester office of Colliers and local agents PF&K.

Haydn Spedding, associate director for hotels at Colliers International Manchester, said: “Parkergate occupies a wonderful location amid the fields and fells of the Bassenthwaite Valley.

“Set at the foot of Ullock Pike , the property nestles under the grandeur of Skiddaw with wonderful uninterrupted views across Bassenthwaite Lake and the Wythop Fells beyond.”

Parkergate consists of a house built in 1767 as a working Lakeland farm with a barn added in 1859 and converted into self-catering use in the 1990s. It has six self-catering units with potential for further extension, subject to planning.

Mr Spedding said: “With a total of three offers received for the property, close to the asking price, the sale of Parkergate illustrates the continuing confidence in the hospitality industry in Cumbria and the Lake District.”
