Cumbria Park Hotel sold out of administration

THE Cumbria Park Hotel in Carlisle has been sold by administrators to father and son management team Brian and Dean Barnes for around £850,000.
The Cumbria Park entered administration in May 2012 after being privately operated by the Lowther family since the 1960s and achieved a net turnover of £855,010 in 2011.The hotel has 53 en-suite bedrooms, six function/meeting rooms, a public bar and fitness and leisure facilities.
Dean Barnes, director of Cumbria Park Enterprises, said: “I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to take ownership of Cumbria Park Hotel and with investment and community support, give this charming hotel the future it deserves.
“Going forward we intend to develop trade to cater for private functions, weddings and conferences which we feel will be a successful market within the Carlisle area.”
Mr Barnes and his father Brian are experienced hotel operators and own the well-established Lonsdale House Hotel in Ulverston in the Lake District.
The hotel was sold by Colliers International on the instructions of administrative receivers Mark Ranson and Keith Anderson of Baker Tilly.
Neil Thomson, associate director, hotels at the North West office of Colliers International in Manchester, said: “After an extensive marketing campaign we received interest from several parties including a number of developers interested in the site for alternative use. I’m delighted the hotel has been sold to existing hoteliers because this will secure the future of the hotel and its staff”.
