Cable relishes Cumbrian enterprise

BUSINESS Secretary Vince Cable has praised the positive impact  businesses in Cumbria are having on the local economy.

He visited the ‘Made in Cumbria’ store in Kendal as part of a regional tour to promote enterprise.

Among the companies he met were Abbey Horn Gifts, which makes  souvenirs, and Hawkshead Relishes which produces a range of local relishes, chutneys and preserves. Both are growing and have now begun to export their products abroad.

Dr Cable said: “SMEs, like the ones I have seen in Cumbria, are the lifeblood of the UK economy. It’s small businesses that will help drive growth and it’s important they are given the right conditions to thrive.

“The Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership is working with many businesses in the area to help identify their individual needs, and many will be able to take advantage of the Regional Growth Fund.”
