Fylde care home changes hands

A BLACKPOOL care home business is set to broaden its range of services after it changed hands.

Glenthorne Care Home has been bought by professional care manager
Cheryl Holden, which has 18 residents and 16 staff, from Valerie Tyler, who will continue to run it as manager.

Ms Holden, whose acquisition was funded by Barclays, plans to expand Glenthorne’s service range by offering council-funded respite accommodation, as well as day-care facilities that will enable potential residents to spend time there, before deciding whether to move there permanently.

She said: “I have wanted to run a care home since my dad died six years ago. I got my degree in care management last year and now I’m able to put what I learned into practice, which is very fulfilling.

“The approach we have is to treat our residents as we would our grandparents, which means being flexible and friendly in the way we look after them. Glenthorne is very much home from home.”

Legal advice on the deal  as provided by David Filmer, head of mergers and acquisitions at Preston-based law firm Harrison Drury. Financial advice was provided by Andy Dawson, of accountancy firm Turner and Turner.
