Avalanche adds to city centre restaurant menu

THE founder of Manchester Italian restaurant Don Giovannis has opened a new city centre venue, Avalanche.

Bahman ‘Bob’ Ghojehvand says he hopes the new restaurant which opened with a charity event on Thursday night, will be the first of several Avalanches.

The Italian restaurant and bar, which is on the site of the former Lime Bar at the intersection of Booth Street and Clarence Street, will cater for up to 180 diners with downstairs seating for 120 people.

It will face stiff competition as it is next-door to Croma and across the road from Piccolino, both of which have large customer followings.

Mr Ghojehvand says he is creating a restaurant “inspired by the great establishments of London and Paris” and that his latest venture will make “a big impact in the city”.

Avalanche, an Italian trattoria concept, aims to bring the finest traditions of Italian food to the area in a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere.

Mr Ghojehvand, has been trading in the restaurant business for 30 years. His last restaurant was Peter Street-based Don Giovannis, which he started in 1984. Two years ago he sold his stake in Don Giovannis.

He said: “I have a very hands on style of working and I love to meet new people. I get up every day and look forward to engaging with people from all walks of life.”

Manchester law firm Kuits Solicitors obtained the premises licence
for the 8,000 sq ft venue.

Anthony Lyons, head of licensing at Kuits said: ““Bahman has considerable experience in the industry having established and run successful restaurants in Manchester for almost three decades.

“Avalanche is an exciting new venture and we wish him and the team every success and look forward to working together in their expansion.”
