Swinton buys Gloucestershire broker

INSURANCE broker Swinton has continued to expand its commercial arm with the acquisition of a Gloucestershire broker.

It has bought Alexander James Commercial Insurance Brokers, based in Stroud, for an undisclosed sum.

The firm’s book of 200 customers will be taken on by Swinton’s commercial centre in Cirencester.

Established by James Pressman in 1994, Alexander James was originally formed as a partnership, specialising in marine, estate management and engineering insurance.

Mr Pressman and consultant Chris Biggs will join the Cirencester branch, along with Alison Franklin and Heather Brown.

Carolyn Callan, director of Swinton Commercial, said: “Retaining local talent and expertise is very important to us and we are delighted to welcome James, Alison, Heather and Chris to Swinton Commercial.”

Swinton is the country’s UK’s largest high street insurance retailer with 553 branches nationwide. Swinton Commercial currently has 34 offices and opened a new site in Gateshead last month.
