WorldPay in Spinningfields move

WORLDPAY, the online payment processing company, has confirmed the move of 200 jobs from London to Manchester.

It has signed a 10-year lease on premises in Spinningfields.

The business is taking 22,000 sq ft – the entire sixth floor – at 3 Hardman Square at £30/sq ft. The block is the former home of failed law firm Halliwells.

The move follows a decision to relocate two of its main back office functions, financial business services and risk.

The company, which employs more than 3,000 people across the UK, US, Europe and Asia, was sold by the Royal Bank of Scotland in 2010 to Advent International and Bain Capital for £2bn.

Chief financial officer Aidan Connolly said: “We have made significant progress in evolving our business since we became an independent company.

“We are investing heavily in growing and maintaining our market leading positions. Investment in people is vital to our strategy going forward and Manchester has a key part to play in that.”

CBRE acted on behalf of Müller International, the country asset manager for the landlord, Credit Suisse Asset Management.

Associate director Alex Russell said: “We are delighted to have secured another new tenant for this prime Grade A office building, which follows hot on the heels of the recently completed letting to service office operator, i2 Office.

“WorldPay is an important newcomer to city as not only is it set to create at least 200 new jobs but as one of the most successful, independent payment processing companies in the world it will no doubt continue to grow and contribute to the region over the coming years.”

Stephen Downey, director of GL Hearn which acted for WorldPay, said: “Hardman Square presented us with the correct location, image and environment for WorldPays new Manchester office. The building gives us a large open floor plan of circa 22,000 sq ft, which was also an important factor in the decision making process.”
