Harbur Construction confident of continued growth

HARBUR Construction is confident of growing again this year after reporting a record year for sales.

The company, which has grown from one employee to more than 20 since launching in 2009, specialises in social housing, commercial, retail and residential construction.

Growth in 2012 which saw turnover rise 3.5% to £17.5m was driven by strong demand for affordable housing.

In the past year, Harbur completed nine developments, including a £4.1m scheme for 45 affordable homes in Salford, and a £1.5m scheme for 16 new properties in Old Trafford, for social housing provider Great Places Housing.

The Affordable Homes Programme 2011-15 (AHP), run by the Homes and Communities Agency, aims to increase the supply of new affordable homes in England by investing £4.5bn from 2011 until 2015.

Christian Bury, managing director of Harbur said: “The government is right behind the affordable housing sector and we have quickly got to understand this market and delivered a number of quality schemes. Our reputation has grown and this has led to new opportunities.

“In addition to the affordable housing market, we are also seeing many enquiries emanating from the commercial and residential sectors. We’re actively recruiting and expect to take on more staff in 2013.”

Harbur has a number of other schemes due to be completed this year, totalling over £25m, including a £7.3m development for 92 affordable key worker homes, in Warrington, for Helena Partnerships, and two separate schemes for Twin Valley Housing in Darwen in Blackburn.

Mr Bury added: “Despite the issues facing the construction sector, our business is moving at a strong pace. We have a very healthy order book for 2013 and we are confident of continuing our growth.”
