Forth Ports man to lead Duchy of Lancaster

THE former managing director Forth Ports’ property arm in Edinburgh has been appointed chief executive at the Duchy of Lancaster.

Nathan Thompson, a chartered surveyor who has also worked at MEPC and US private equity firm JER Partners, will start the job in August.

The estate, owned by the Queen, largely consists of agricultural land and farm buildings.

In the year to March 2012 the net asset value of the estate grew by 6% to £405.3m. It also generated a net surplus of £12.9m, although this figure was a 3% drop on the previous year.

Mr Thompson said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of this historic and prestigious organisation.

“The Duchy of Lancaster has an impressive and diverse portfolio of assets as well as a strong team.  I am very much looking forward to working with them and all those involved with the Duchy.”

Current chief executive, Paul Clarke, is leaving after 13 years. He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Duchy of Lancaster and am pleased to leave it in Nathan’s very capable hands.

“I know everyone at the Duchy will wish him the best of luck as he begins his new role, which I know from experience, can be challenging as well as incredibly rewarding.”
