Madame Tussauds tipped for Trafford Centre

MADAME Tussauds could be the next attraction to open at the Trafford Centre.

The company that owns the franchise, Merlin Entertainments, already has a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre at Barton Square, and is building a Sea Life centre.

TheBusinesDesk.com understands its next move will be introducing the famous waxworks museum which is present in London and Blackpool, and other sites around the world.

A spokesperson for Merlin hastily scotched the idea, but there was no denial from the Trafford Centre which said it is, “continually in talks with a great many potential new tenants”.

Regional centre director Gordon Mckinnon said: “We never comment on speculation in relation to our tenants. The Trafford Centre is continually in talks with a great many potential new tenants across our range of retail, leisure and food and drink sectors.

“From our established family favourites such as the Paradise Island Adventure Golf and Aerial Extreme High-Ropes Adventure Course, to the forthcoming Sea Life aquarium at Barton Square, we have shown how our mix of retail and leisure is a great attraction for visitors across the North West and beyond.”

Merlin Entertainments, which is owned three investment funds – Blackstone, Kirkbi and CVC Capital Partners, is due to report full-year figures on March 27. In 2011 like-for-like operating profits were up 10% to £217.4m, on sales of £856.1m, up 8%. Visitor numbers grew 3% to 41.6 million.
