Appointments: Barclays; Addleshaws, Pinsents, Braemar, and more

BARCLAYS has strengthened its Liverpool team by appointing Steve Butler as relationship director.

Mr Butler joins Barclays at its regional base at 20 Chapel Street and  specialises in working with businesses in the manufacturing sector with a turnover in excess of £5m. 

Originally from Liverpool, Steve has enjoyed a 25 year banking career mostly with RBS and most recently Yorkshire/Clydesdale.

Commenting on his move, Mr Butler said, “There is a real desire amongst everyone I have met to provide great service in every interaction with their customers.  I look forward to playing a part in Barclays achieving their goal of being the go-to bank for corporates across the region.”

ASSET-based lending specialist Simon Prendergast has been appointed as a partner in the banking group at law firm Addleshaw Goddard.  

Manchester-based Mr Prendergast joins Addleshaws from Eversheds where he was head of asset-based lending.

He will have a national role, working from the firm’s London, Manchester and Leeds offices.

He specialises in asset-based lending, cross-border receivables financing, supply chain finance and corporate banking and advises a range of asset based lenders and other financial institutions including HSBC and Barclays.

Richard Papworth, Addleshaw Goddard’s head of banking said: “Asset-based lending is an attractive sector for us to invest in. While the traditional debt finance market is subdued, with fierce competition for a reduced number of transactions, the asset based lending market, in contrast, is expanding.”

PROPERTY manager Braemar Estates, part of the Brooks Macdonald Group, has appointed Chris March as chief executive based at the firm’s Hale head office.
 
He joins from Allsop Residential Investment Management (ARIM), where he worked as property director responsible for its property and block management service delivery throughout the UK.

Prior to this, Mr March was business development director for Countrywide Managing Agents, managing business-to-business and business-to-consumer sales and marketing. He is an associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Braemar manages £1bn of assets, including Grosvenor’s One Park West in Liverpool and Beetham Tower in Manchester.

He said: “I am delighted to have joined Braemar Estates. It is a rapidly growing company, with an excellent team of individuals, and I look forward to further raising the profile of the business and contributing to its continued success.”

LAW firm Pinsent Masons has made two senior associates in its Manchester office partners.

They are Ian Stubbs, who specialises in energy and infrastructure projects, and property lawyer Nicola Buchanan. They are among 14 who have been made parters at Pinsent Masons’ offices across the UK.

Eleven of the firm’s lawyers have been made legal directors, including Manchester-based Celia Cullen and Simon J Colvin.

DAVIS Blank Furniss, the Manchester and Glossop based law firm, has strengthened its family department following the appointment of Kirsty Morbey as an assistant solicitor.

She has joined from Slater & Gordon where she has worked for the last three years. Prior to that, she worked at Gorvins and also at Rowlands.

She said: “I’ve worked at large firms for many years but I knew for the next stage of my career I wanted to be somewhere that offered a more personal service and where I could make a real difference. I’ve also admired Davis Blank Furniss’ heritage and reputation for a while now so it’s great to now be part of the team.”
