Filming starts for kids’ TV show at The Sharp Project

Shine TV has started filming for its new BBC Childrens’ show ‘My Genius Idea’ at the Sharp Factory facility in Manchester.
The company, which was founded by Elisabeth Murdoch and has become one of the UK’s biggest independent production companies, has started filming nine 30-minute programmes at the site at Newton Heath which will be shown later this year. The firm has built a large-scale set inside one of the Sharp Project’s sound stages, which was designed by North West-based Barcode Media’s Stephen Graham.
“This is just one of a number of big names in TV production that are interested in our facilities,” said Sharp Project director Sue Woodward.
The Sharp Project is housed in a former Sharp Electronics plant at Thorp Road at Newton Heath which is currently undergoing a £16.5m refurb. Phase 1 of the scheme was completed in April. Phase Two recently opened and a further two phases will be complete by the end of next year.
