Peninsula to hire 30 amid tribunal changes

EMPLOYMENT law adviser Peninsula Business Services is to hire 30 additional new staff to advise businesses on employment tribunal reforms being introduced this year.

Manchester-based Peninsula, owned by entrepreneur Peter Done, will recruit for the posts over the next three months. The £84m turnover company already employs more than 900 people.

Mr Done said: “Reforms being introduced this year will be the biggest shake up in tribunal rules in 25 years. The Government are introducing them to prevent frivolous employment tribunal claims, however it will cost employers money to defend themselves and they’ll need to fork out even more cash if they are found guilty.

“This is why I want to recruit the best employment law specialists to be on the side of the employer, to be their defence and help them make sense of what is happening. If I need more specialists then I’ll recruit more staff – it’s as simple as that.”

He added: “Many of my friends are business owners and they tell me how frustrating it is when a routine HR issue such as sacking someone who is under-performing turns into something more serious such as employment tribunal. Sadly many small firms take a gamble and sack workers without following policies only to be taken to tribunal.
