Rescue deals sought as Daniel joins construction casualty list

WARRINGTON-based construction company Daniel Contractors, which employs 600 people in the region, has fallen into administration.

Bill Dawson and Dan Butters, partners at Deloitte, the business advisory firm, have today been appointed joint administrators to the troubled utility contractor and its subsdiary Marine Project Engineering.

In a statement Deloitte said: “The administrators intend to continue to trade two of the three main contracts within Daniel Contractors with a view to agreeing a transfer of the business and employees.

“We understand that the counterparty of the third contract has made arrangements to transfer the related business and employees to a third party.”

A transfer of the contracts would safeguard 990 jobs out of a group-wide total of 1,449 people.

The adminsitrators said a number of expressions of interest had been made regarding Land & Marine, and would be considered in due course.

Bill Dawson, Joint Administrator and partner in Deloitte’s Manchester restructuring services team, said: “We are in discussions with the key stakeholders and interested parties of the group in an attempt to sell all or parts of the businesses and we will be briefing the employees about the situation.”
