Adagio in talks over Manchester aparthotel

HOTEL operator Accor has narrowed down its search for a new location in Manchester to two potential sites.

Last week the group formally launched its Adagio aparthotel in Liverpool’s converted Lewis’ building. The refurbished Grade II-listed department store is part of the £160m Central Village regeneration scheme.

Vangelis Porikis, Adagio director for central and Northern Europe, told TheBusinesDesk: “We’re in discussions at two possible sites in the centre of Manchester – but it’s only the start of discussions.”

The group would not disclose the locations it is interested in, but it hopes to open in the city next year. It will not buy a building, but instead take a lease as it has done in Liverpool with the Central Village landlord, Regent Capital.

The 126-apartment Adagio Liverpool has a mix of studios and one-bedroom apartments aimed at business and tourism visitors who will stay up to 90 days. As well as Manchester, the group is also planning to launch in Birmingham, London, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Mr Porikis added: “The UK was always been in the strategic plans for Adagio. We looked at the major cities that are attracting overseas customers that want extended stays and we found there is a lot of interest in Liverpool. We always look for cities where there’s a mix of corporate and leisure business coming from international locations.”

The Adagio aparthotels business is a joint venture between Pierre & Vacances Center Parcs Group and Accor. The Liverpool hotel has been operating since the end of March.
