Old Trafford revamp concludes ahead of the Ashes

THE completion of the redevelopment of Lancashire County Cricket Club’s ground is being marked today with the official opening of the pavilion.
It is the final phase of a BDP-designed £32m revamp that also includes a new events venue The Point and a player and media centre.
The ground, now called Emirates Old Trafford, has been completed in time for the Ashes in August.
The pavilion reinstates the 1895 building at the heart of the ground and provides new facilities for members and new club offices.
The new building has a double-height glazed front and reception space. The former players’ dressing room on the second floor is now hospitality space, while new third and fourth floor levels include hospitality suites between the turrets.
Gavin Elliott, chairman of BDP’s Manchester studio, said: “The pavilion is the emotional heart of the cricket club, and throughout the design process we have worked with the club to ensure we strike a balance between creating a state-of-the-art sporting venue that respects the emotional attachment many have for the ‘old’ pavilion.
“The pavilion has been restored to its rightful place as the physical and symbolic centre-piece of the new ground.”
The contractor on the project was Morgan Sindall.
