Property briefs: Assura; FWP; and Your Housing

WARRINGTON healthcare developer Assura Group has completed its latest Merseyside scheme, a £3m medical centre on Brackenwood Road, Bebington. The new surgery was delivered in partnership with LSP Developments.

The 14,350 sq ft centre houses two GP practices, Kings Lane Medical Practice and Church Road Medical Practice.

Amanda Roddy, development manager at Assura Group, said: “Moving two GP surgeries into one building makes vital medical services more accessible for patients in the local community. Our focus is on creating top of the range facilities for GPs, that are fit for the purpose of delivering primary care in the 21st century. The Bebington medical centre certainly fulfills that goal.”

Architect practice West Hart Partnership designed the scheme, with WH Snow appointed as contractors.

ARCHITECTURE and design practice Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) has created a health education centre in Wigan.

FWP, which has offices in Preston and Manchester, provided design and management services for the £2.9m flagship centre on Wigan Lane in the town.

The centre features an upgraded lecture theatre, eight seminar rooms for training and meetings and modern new offices. The second floor also has a purpose-built clinical skills lab.

The design project included the construction of a lightweight glazed atrium linking the various lecture, conference and training rooms. A contemporary and modern design scheme complements the conversion.

Barry Cleminson, project architect at FWP, said: “The new education centre and library at Wigan Infirmary is a flagship training facility for medical students and doctors and represents a major investment by the foundation NHS Trust.

“We were working on a constrained site next to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and using two listed Victorian buildings. The end result is a modern, flexible and high quality facility that can provide first-class educational services for medical students and staff.”
