Starwood brings W Hotel to Manchester

US hotel group Starwood Hotels & Resorts is to open an upmarket W Hotel in Manchester.

The operator will open W Manchester in 2010 on West Property’s Origin development on Princess Street.

The new 160-bed hotel will be designed by Manchester architect Ian Simpson, who was responsible for the landmark Beetham Tower, Number 1 Deansgate and Urbis.

It will also boast 7,000sq ft of meeting and event space, a spa, fitness facility, a W Hotels retail store, and a top restaurant.

Michael Wale, an executive with Starwood said: “This eye-catching new hotel will not only energise the city’s landscape, but will also give our guests a stylish, new alternative in the chic, modern city of Manchester.”

All guest rooms will offer the latest in cutting-edge technology and the most advanced in-room entertainment systems.

Starwood is expanding the W Hotels brand into Europe. It is opening sites in London, Barcelona and Milan and Athens.

The group also operates the Sheraton, Westin, Le Meridien and St Regis hotel brands.
