Mather & Co’s football double

MATHER & Co, the Cheshire design consultancy specialising in visitor attractions, has netted a footballing double.

With the new season underway, 2013 is a milestone year for the beautiful game with the Football Association celebrating 150 years and the Football League 125 years.

Mather & Co, is working on and has designed new exhibitions to mark the two events.

At the National Football Museum based in Manchester, the firm is designing a new temporary exhibition, which will run from September 2013 until April 2014, the same duration as The Football League’s inaugural season (September 1888 to April 1889). This will mark the 125th Anniversary of the world’s original league football competition.

The new exhibition will feature some of professional football’s most iconic and historic items.

In London and for the Football Association, Mather & Co has designed a gallery that captures some of the key footballing moments and iconic images throughout the FA’s history using a selection of artefacts, memorabilia, photographs and films.

The exhibition is in the ‘FA 150’ visitor gallery at Wembley Stadium.
Visitors enter the gallery underneath the famous ‘Geoff Hurst’ crossbar from the 1966 World Cup final, and are confronted with the full and rich history of the FA and Wembley, old and new.

A feature unit includes several five star exhibits including the Jules Rimet World Cup trophy, the original FA Cup, the retired FA Cup, the original FA Community Shield and the unique, and very valuable, FA rule book.

Chirs Mather, managing director of the Wilmslow firm said: “These two high profile projects marking major milestones in footballing history underline Mather & Co’s excellent pedigree and commitment to designing engaging visitor attractions and exhibitions throughout the sports sector.

“Both exhibitions provide a platform to display trophies, memorabilia and other historic items for all to see, and tell the story of both the Football Association and the Football League for football supporters everywhere to enjoy.”
