Sheila Bird Group hired for MSP makeover

ATUL Bansal of Interior design practice, Sheila Bird Group, has been appointed by Manchester Science Parks (MSP) to advise on the design and refurbishment of its Greenheys building.

It is being converted into a collaborative space for tenants and Mr Bansal says he has been inspired by Daniel Libeskind’s work on The Jewish Museum in Berlin. He also designed the Imperial War Museum North.

He said: “The brief was to provide occupiers with a ‘space to think’, placing an importance on giving the MSP community a place to interact and communicate. We can’t really say much about what we have been up to yet; apart from it has “wonder walls” and the largest A-Z map of Manchester.

“We would love to share an image of the space but it is under wraps until the grand opening, however can share an image that inspired us, a shot of an amazing and thought provoking space in Berlin. This project has been one of the most rewarding experiences that we have had the privilege to be been involved in. To be honest we felt really bad sending in our last invoice!”

Rowena Burns, chief executive of Manchester Science Parks, said: “We wanted to create a space that would act as a heart for the park, indicative of the kind of conversation we want to encourage and support – creative, inspiring where members of our community can come together and share ideas, hold events and showcase their products and services. Atul has pushed the boundaries and we are eager to reveal the end result to our occupiers.”
