Woodford plans on show

THE developers behind plans to build on the former Woodford Aerodrome site in Stockport are holding a two-day public exhibition showcasing their proposals prior to submitting a planning application.

JCB heir Joe Bamford bought the site in 2011 from BAE Systems for £10m and has since agreed a joint venture with a subsidiary of housebuilder Redrow called Harrow Estates. His own development vehicle is known as Avro Heritage.

The joint venture wants to build hundreds of houses, a new primary school, employment space and other local amenities.

In December Stockport Council’s Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) revised down the number of homes for the site from 950 to 750-850.

Jennie Daly, managing director of Harrow Estates, said: “We’re pleased to be at the next stage of our planning application programme for Woodford Aerodrome which we believe will make the best use of a currently unloved previously developed site, as well as a unique opportunity to deliver a high quality, sustainable community to serve the needs of new and existing residents.

“The community workshops held in July were really useful for us in helping to determine which aspects of the Woodford Aerodrome scheme matter most to local people. Since then, we’ve been continuing to develop the planning application for the site.”

The exhibition is being held at Woodford Aerodrome, Chester Road, Woodford on September 20, 12-8pm and September 21, 10-4pm.
