ERDF backing for Littlewoods building revamp

MANCHESTER developer Capital & Centric has secured £1.1m of European funding towards its £4m conversion of a former storage building at the Littlewoods site in Liverpool.
It is the first phase, along with an access road and infrastructure works, of a £20m redevelopment of the art deco building on Edge Lane.
It wants to convert a warehouse next door, now known as the Bunker building, into 18 office suites, ranging in size from 320 sq ft to 600 sq ft, for micro businesses and growing small firms. It will have a total of 17,500 sq ft.
Capital & Centric acquired the building from the Homes & Communities Agency in April. The funding has come from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The developer is also understood to be bidding to the European Union-backed Chrysalis Fund for around £6m to help finance work on the main building which will be converted into 50,000 sq ft of offices, 50,000 sq ft of business space and a 104-bed hotel.
Louise Pearson of Capital & Centric said: “This site holds strong social interest in the local community and we’re delighted to have secured the support of the European Regional Development Fund to bring the building back to life to assist economic growth and job creation.”
