Deloitte chief Thorne ‘petrified’ as charity gig nears

A WEEK to go to the Funny Business charity comedy event and Deloitte regional chief Sharon Thorne, admits she is “petrified”.

Mrs Thorne, managing partner of regional markets at Deloitte, says the gig – which she is starring in along wityh other regional business leaders including Urban Splash’s Tom Bloxham and David Pollock from Chess – is well beyond her comfort zone.

She says: “I’m trying not to think too much about it. I’ve done a couple of warm up gigs at The Frog & Bucket and The Comedy Store, which have gone surprisingly well.
 
“At first, I thought it would be easier doing it in front of people that know me, but after the rehearsals I’ve realised I’d much rather perform to a room full of strangers. With my script being fairly personal, I think some people will be a little shocked, but on the plus side that should hopefully make them laugh!”
 
Despite such a leap into the unknown, she is happy to be raising money for cancer charities, explaining:“Both charities are very close to my heart. The Christie facility in Manchester is phenomenal and I know a lot of people that have been treated there.

“One of my close friends died in the summer from breast cancer and they did an amazing job looking after her – this is a way of saying thank you to the Christie.

“I’m also a trustee at Prostate Cancer UK and day-in, day-out I meet people who have been affected by this type of cancer. It’s a terrible disease and there is still a need to identify a reliable early indicator of prostate cancer. I’m hoping that with the eight of us getting up on stage we will edge them one step closer to significantly improving the outcomes for people affected by this disease.”
