JMW hails ‘exceptional’ half year

LAW firm JMW Solicitors continued to grow strongly in the six months to the end of October, with fee income rising 26% to £7.98m.

The firm said organic growth of 6% and its merger with niche Manchester firm Goodman Harvey earlier this year had driven the increase in turnover.

With second half performance usually stronger, the Spinningfields firm says it is on track to surpass its full year target of £16m. Half year profits are 133% ahead of this time last year, although a figure was not disclosed.

The majority of its departments delivered higher revenues in the half year. Corporate led the way with a 102% increase, followed by commercial litigation, up 77% on the first half of 2012. Commercial property was up 64%, private client 63%, business crime & regulation rose  55% and family grew 30%.

JMW said personal injury and clinical negligence remained its  two largest revenue producers, accounting for 37.5% of revenue.

The firm’s Lawshare network which receives work from 120 North West solicitors were instructed on 46% more matters than 12 months ago and its  website became the largest introducer of new clients to the firm.

Senior partner Joy Kingsley said: “We continue to be very encouraged by the fact that it is possible to achieve results like these, in a market which has been very difficult for law firms.

“These exceptional results show that our strategy of providing a full service to our clients, entrepreneurial leadership and continuing recruitment of those who wish to bring their clients here, has been a very successful one for us.”

Managing partner Bill Jones added: “JMW has doubled its revenue  and profit over the last five years which stands out amongst our competitors. The results are a credit to the great team we have at JMW and we hope and expect that the firm will continue to enjoy the results and recognition we are receiving at the moment.”
