Bespoke Hotels to bring Gotham City to King Street

BESPOKE Hotel Group says it will bring a “rock and roll feel” to its new Manchester site, which it says will be the “sexiest in Europe”.
TheBusinessDesk.com first identified London-based Bespoke as the likely occupier of the site at 100 King Street – the former Midland Bank HQ – where Jamie’s Italian restaurant is located on the ground floor.
Chairman Robin Sheppard said Bespoke would invest “several million pounds” in the site, which he said would hopefully be ready to open by St Valentine’s Day 2015.
He said: “We have been looking for a site in Manchester for four or five years, when we were introduced to the building by the developers we knew it was the right one for us.
“Rather than being another ‘vanilla’ concept like the Lowry, we’ll have more theatre, colour and edge. It’ll be exciting and fun.”
He said the Gotham name was taken from the New York-style architecture of the building, which was designed by Sir Edward Lutyens.
It will have 60 deluxe bedrooms and create 100 full and part-time jobs when it opends. It will have a private members’ bar and garden situated on the roof of the building.
The hotel will also feature several suites within the building’s inner sanctum. Each will be equipped with its own private, internal garden.
Mr Sheppard added: “Hotel Gotham promises to be a fun, witty destination and a little bit naughty. We want it to be the sexiest hotel in Europe.”
“Working with the skills of the Marshall Construction Group team as our partners we hope to open up thecharacter of this majestic building and present it to the Manchester public as a hotel they can be truly proud of.”
Simon Marshall, MD of developer Marshalls Construction Group said: “”We are delighted to begin the transformation of this handsome Lutyens building into a first class hotel with our partners Bespoke Hotels.
“We are also grateful to Manchester’s Planning Authority’s enthusiasm for our scheme.”
