Awards round-up: JMC IT, HURST; BCM

SALFORD-based IT services group JMC IT has won the British Chamber Awards Commitment to People Development award.

It was the only Greater Manchester business to be shortlisted in the category at the ceremony held London on November 28.

Managing director Andrew Burgess said: “It was a real honour to attend as the region’s only company in the running for an award, and an incredible  achievement to win the title for Commitment to People Development.

“We work with some of the region’s best businesses on a daily basis and we know what fantastic talent exists in the North West. It’s a true privilege to play a part in nurturing these individuals and providing them with a rewarding working environment and to be recognised yet again for our efforts in doing things differently.”

Judges praised JMC’s commitment to fostering its workforce through a range of initiatives, including Team JMC, the company’s social, sporting and charitable arm.

MATT Smith, an associate partner at accountancy firm HURST, has been crowned finance professional of the year by the Manchester branch of Junior Chamber International.

The 31-year-old was presented with his accolade at the organisation’s annual Young Talent Awards dinner, which was held at the Imperial War Museum North and attracted 300 guests.

JCI Manchester is an organisation for young professionals and entrepreneurs and is part of the global JCI network. Smith is part of HURST’s business services team, overseeing a portfolio of compliance clients, undertaking special projects and due diligence. He is also responsible for business development and mentors other members of the business services team, which is led by partner Andrew Milnes.

MANCHESTER and Liverpool-based Beverley Clifton Morris (BCM) has won the Consulting Engineer of the Year award at The Builder & Engineer Awards.

The company specialises in low carbon building services design which involves working with architects and contractors to ensure buildings are as efficient and sustainable as possible.

The judges said BCM had an industry-leading approach in terms of best practice and new ways of working, and praised its involvement with a number of industry steering groups.

Managing director Brian Morris said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this prestigious, national award. It is a real testament to our dedication to the industry and innovative ways of working. Having made it through to the finals of the same category last year, winning the award this year shows how we build on our achievements and continue to develop our skills. We view this win as an incredibly huge accolade and our repeated success highlights our good practice, dedication and consistent approach to delivering energy efficient and sustainable solutions.”

BCM has 16 staff and annual sales of £750,000. Clients include Manchester City Council, Galliford Try and Taylor Wimpey.
