Liverpool approves 300-bed student scheme

LIVERPOOL City Council has approved an application for a 323-bed student development close to the city centre.

Developer Dreamport, which is based in the city and owned by David Lee, wants to erect a three to eight-storey building on the site of the JB Treasure glass works on Vauxhall Road.

The scheme was approved despite oposition from some councillors who argued the area is already “swamped” by student accommodation.

Council papers show councillors Sharon Sullivan and Nick Small said the development, “will have a negative effect on local amenity by having an overbearing and impinging impact on neighbouring residents’ privacy”.

Planning officers recommended it was approved, saying the scheme, “will redevelop an urban brownfield site with a modern, efficient use and bring with it economic benefits, and local employment and training prospects.”
