Liverpool’s Brewery Village moves forward

PLANS to transform Liverpool’s Cain’s brewery into an urban village with a boutique hotel, tourist attraction including a cinema and food market, have moved nearer, after the government gave the green light to the £50m scheme.

Although planning permission was obtained from Liverpool City Council in November 2013, the development was referred to Whitehall, and could have faced a public inquiry due to its scale.

The scheme, called Brewery Village, Liverpool, follows the move by the owners of Cains, the Dusanj brothers to end large-scale production of own-label beers for supermarkets and to focus on the production of its craft beers and lagers which are sold in the UK and exported worldwide.

Mark Worcester, a director in Turley’s Manchester office who advised Brewery Village said: “We are delighted with this decision.  It opens the way for a major new tourism and leisure destination in Liverpool, providing many new jobs. It will be a real asset for the city.”

Cains Brewery is currently seeking partners and operators for the cinema, hotel and supermarket to help take the scheme forward.  The first phase is expected to be completed by summer 2016.
