Contract wins for Shepherd Gilmour Infrastructure

SHEPHERD Gilmour Infrastructure has been awarded three contracts for major schemes across the UK and abroad.

The wins will see the Manchester-based civil engineering consultancy working on development projects with a total value of over £650m.

In Staffordshire, Shepherd Gilmour Infrastructure has been appointed to carry out all of the engineering works and the infrastructure design for the multi-million pound Branston Locks scheme. The development will create a new community for Burton, including 2,500 homes and the development of 50 acres of employment land.

In South Wales, Cheshire-based developer Metier has instructed the company to stabilise a 90m deep coal mine and carry out the enabling works to revitalise the former colliery ahead of the delivery of a £50m mixed-use scheme. The plan includes a 90,000 sq ft supermarket, 250 homes and health centre.

Overseas in Khorfakkan (UAE), Shepherd Gilmour Infrastructure has started work on a five star, £50m holiday resort, shaping a plateaux in the mountain side and providing infrastructure design for the resort which will see executive villas, a royal suite and a Japanese beach restaurant take shape in early 2015.

Emyr Jones, managing director of Shepherd Gilmour Infrastructure, said: “We’ve seen the rewards of four years of hard work in the first quarter of 2014 with a number of large schemes getting planning approval.

“We’re often appointed to projects in the very early stages and are involved throughout the planning process as well as construction, so for larger developments can be onsite for several years – sometimes 10 or more.

“The market is certainly picking with a number of key projects in the pipeline and although we remain cautious, expect our turnover to increase by 25% in 2014 making it our most successful financial year since 2008.”
