Eclectic Hotels to create 70 jobs at King Street Townhouse

ECLECTIC Hotels, the niche Manchester hotel operator behind the popular Great John Street venue opposite the former Granada studios site, says it will create 70 jobs with the launch of its second city centre venue.

Its latest project, King Street Townhouse which is due to open early in 2015, will be Eclectic’s fifth venue in and around the city. As well as Great John Street, it has two hotels in Didsbury, Didsbury House and Eleven Didsbury Park, and it also operates the ‘On the 7th’ members club at MediaCityUK.

The King Street Townhouse, actually on nearby Booth Street, is a Grade II listed building, located within the Upper King Street conservation area.

Facilities will include 40 bedrooms and suites, the King Street Tavern featuring
a bar, restaurant and wine cellars, afternoon tea rooms, conferencing and
event space for up to 200 people, a residents’ gym and spa treatment rooms.

Among the new hotel’s more quirky features is a south-facing rooftop infinity
spa pool, with views of the spires and clock tower of Manchester Town Hall.

It will also have a separate south facing roof terrace available for private hire.

Eclectic Hotels owner Eamonn O’Loughlin said: “We have worked closely
with Manchester City Council and our design team to create a luxury townhouse hotel within the King Street conservation area.”

He added: “We are very grateful to the city’s planning department for their support and guidance. I remain heavily involved in the project on a daily basis to ensure the concept we have devised is made a reality and hopefully welcomed by the public. ”

The renovation and fit-out works of what was an office building and before that the headquarters of the Manchester & Salford Trustees Savings Bank, are expected to take around 12 months.

During the planning process English Heritage questioned some aspects of the project, notably the addition of a third door on Booth Street to give restaurant access.
