New owners to invest at Ruthin Castle

THE new owers of Ruthin Castle are planning further investment in the luxury hotel.

The 60-bed hotel and venue, around 20 miles from Chester, was sold through a pre-packaged administration last month.

It was acquired by a joint venture between private equity firm Kepler Capital, the Wilmslow-based Prima Hotel Group and existing management.

In a statement it said it will “inject further investment into the property” to “cement the hotel’s reputation for excellence”.

The scale of the investment was not disclosed but Prima’s chief executive said it would be more than £1m.

Previous owner Anthony Saint Claire pumped in £2m in 2012 to refurbish all the rooms and add a spa, which helped the property achieve 4-star listing.

Mr Walshe said: “Ruthin Castle is in pretty good shape. The fabric of the building, the public areas, and a lot of the rooms have had an extensive refurbishment but there are some roms we have to bring up to standard.

“This represents a significant opportunity for both Ruthin Castle and our group. With a strong team managing the re-structured operations, underpinned by a solid business model which will move the property forward, Ruthin Castle can guarantee its visitors an uninterrupted and enhanced service.

“It remains firmly at the heart of the local community as a thriving and successful business, and a landmark destination venue attracting visitors to the area. We’re delighted to bring Ruthin Castle into the Prima Hotel Group family.”

Prima owns five other hotels and runs a Holiday Inn, in Oldham Road Manchester, under contract.
