Edge Transport on the move to drive growth

FAMILY owned haulage company Edge Transport is on the move itself to new premises on Deeside, closer to its Chester roots.

Currently based in Llay near Wrexham, Edge, which was founded in Chester in 1933, has agreed a new seven figure working capital finance deal with Yorkshire Bank to help fund its move to the Deeside Industrial Estate, where it will occupy a six acre site.

The £5m turnover company is currenly run by Jonathan Edge, the grandson of founder Albert Edge, and operates a fleet of more than 30 vehicles. It specialises in providing pallet delivery, distribution, and warehousing to around 500 clients.

Managing director Mr Edge said: “As a company which has constantly evolved through the years we are now ready to embark on a period of significant expansion. By moving to new premises we will increase our capacity without compromising the quality of our service, in turn helping us to target new clients, increase the workforce, and drive growth.”

A new customer to Yorkshire Bank, Edge Transport worked with Mike Scott, relationship manager at the bank’s business and private banking centre in Liverpool.

Edge Transport, which has 48 staff, plans to increase its workforce and turnover significantly in the next five years.

Stewart Cook, head of Yorkshire Bank’s Liverpool business and private banking centre, said: “The continued success which Edge Transport is enjoying reflects the commitment of Jonathan and his team and represents all that is good about the entrepreneurial spirit of the North West’s business community.

“We’re pleased to support the group’s latest expansion and are confident the move to Deeside Industrial Estate will pave the way for further growth opportunities in their specialist field.”
