The Interview – Richard James

TheBusinessDesk.com speaks to Richard James, head of property at law firm Pannone Corporate in Manchester.

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the property sector in the North West right now?
Attracting a larger share of international and institutional investment.

If you could improve anything in the region, what would it be?
Transport links between the main centres. Getting to and from London is fine but there needs to be real improvement in getting around the region if it is to make full use of its resources and realise its potential in attracting investment.

Looking into your crystal ball, what are your property predictions for the next six months?
A continued rise in activity levels with increased investment and perhaps an increased spread to slightly less prime locations. Generally, a pretty good outlook but there are some area which will take time to catch up.

What is the best project you’ve been involved in?

The Boulevard Industry Park and Estuary Commerce Park at Speke. Seeing the buildings go up, be occupied, and be operating successfully.

Name the person who has most inspired you and the one who has had the biggest influence on your career?
Ric Charlesworth, the Australian hockey player, international player, doctor, MP, first class cricketer for Western Australian and in his sixties one of the leading international coaches – very impressive multi-tasking.

If your career didn’t exist, what would you do?
I’d coach hockey.

What’s the best thing about your job?
That you can often see the physical result of your work in property as buildings appear or are refurbished with commercial activity taking place where previously an area may have been rundown
