Done turns attention to major PRS scheme

FRED Done is moving into the private rented sector (PRS) with plans for a 380-apartments scheme in central Salford.

His company FICM has submitted proposals for two blocks around the grade II-listed Black Friar pub on the corner of Blackfriars Road and Trinity Way.

FICM, whose other directors are Simon Ismail and Mike McManus, will retain the block for private rent, rather than sell individual apartments.

The pub will form part of the scheme and there will also be five town houses at the centre of the development which has been designed by 5plus Architects. It will replace a low rise 1960s office block currently occupied by the law firm Crawfords which will be accommodated in new ground floor offices.

Mr Ismail said: “Trinity is the heart of the original Salford, it is where we are all from and we all feel a sense of responsibility to create something very special that we can be proud of. This will be Fred’s legacy.”

Mr McManus said: “It has taken us two years to put the site together so this is an important moment. It is an incredibly exciting scheme for us and for Salford. I do believe we have the best team available on the project and the passion, flair and drive they possess has helped us get to this point and we are now keen to make it happen.”

5plus director Jon Matthews said: “Residential design in the North West is entering a new phase based on quality and from first principles we have designed a place to live. As well as incorporating high quality materials, private space, public space and a new lease of life for the Black Friar pub, the development is a piece of urban design. There is scale to Trinity Way, a new square and front doors and activity on every street.”

Mr Done already has permission for a 160,000 sq ft office block in Manchester’s St Peter’s Square through another development vehicle.
