Corporate lawyer Dawson moves to Select Property

MARK Dawson,  the top corporate partner at the Manchester office of national law firm Shoosmiths, has left the firm to join Manchester-based Select Property as a director.

Mr Dawson, who worked for Halliwells and DLA Piper before moving to Shoosmiths in 2010, said he is “proud” of the contribution he has made to the firm’s impressive Manchester growth story.

Select Property Group is a retailer of investment property. It began in 2004 with a focus on Dubai as growth exploded in the oil rich emirate. It has now broadened its reach and has more than 9,000 properties have been sold to investors in over 100 countries.

He said: “Since I joined Shoosmiths over four years ago, the firm’s presence in Manchester has expanded and I am proud to have been part of that success story. The corporate, banking and restructuring teams include some very talented individuals, so I know I am leaving the team in good hands.

“Working closely with clients gives you an insight into the challenges of working in a client side role I am excited to be given the opportunity to gain new experience outside of private practice in such a dynamic business.

“I have had a great career in law, but this was such a great opprtunity to test myself by working for a really entrepreneurial business with an impressive management team.”

Harold Brako, head of Shoosmiths Manchester office said: “We wish Mark every success in his new venture.  He has played a very significant role in the recent development of Shoosmiths in Manchester and he will be missed, although we will continue to have strong links with Mark in his role at Select Property.

“Over the last four years we have built a team of 19 specialising in corporate, banking and restructuring, including five partners and we will continue to progress with our growth plans both in corporate and other practice areas.”
