All jobs lost as Eden closes

A restaurant and bar in the heart of Manchester’s Gay Village has shut with the loss of all 18 jobs.
A slump in trade and disruption caused by building works in the next-door building were said to have contributed to the failure of Eden Bar on Brazil Street.
Eden had a cocktail bar and a restaurant serving meals made with seasonal local produce. It also had a barge moored alongside on the Rochdale Canal where customers could eat and drink.
Insolvency practitioner Steven Wiseglass, of Manchester-based Inquesta, has been appointed liquidator of SDB Bars, which operated Eden Bar on Brazil Street. Eden opened in 2002, SDB Bars took over the running of Eden Bar in October 2012.
Mr Wiseglass said it appeared that Eden Bar suffered from a general downturn of trade in the area and had seen footfall decline after it was left virtually marooned by a building site next door. The excavations meant access to Eden Bar became difficult, deterring potential customers, he added.
Mr Wiseglass said: “It is unfortunate that SDB Bars could not continue trading, and sadly there have been 18 redundancies as a result of the closure of Eden Bar.”
